Christian's gaze snapped up to hers.
Oh, oh, I definitely should have kept my mouth shut.
"How do you know they were murdered?"
"IahIum" D.J. bit her lip. How was she going to explain that her guardian angel had told her?
The warmth radiating from Christian's body to hers dissipated as he stepped away. He stalked around the couch, putting the item of furniture between them. The size of the sofa seemed small compared to the mountain she'd just put between them with her ill-timed words.
"You had me investigated." She didn't answer, just continued to stare at him, cursing in silence the lapse of her stupid tongue. "Didn't you?" he insisted.
"No. I mean yes." She took a step toward him, her hand outstretched in a silent plea. "It's not what you think."
"I think it must be nice being a cop. You can invade anyone's life on a whim. Is that how you get your kicks, D.J.? Digging up secret horrors and sharing them with your buddies?"
She shook her head, horrified at his words, but she couldn't seem to speak. She couldn't seem to deny his accusations. Her outstretched hand dropped back to her side unheeded.
He made a sound of disgust deep in his throat. "My private life is private, Officer. What I choose to share is what I choose. Not you."
He turned and walked down the hall toward her
